Carmarthen Youth Project (also known as Dr M’z) has been in existence as youth organisation for 28 years. We became a registered charity in 2008 and we work with 500 + young people every year providing a safe and stimulating place for them to meet, and take part in opportunities and gain new skills to improve their lives.
Our open access provision runs five days a week including Youth Drop in, Juniors and DrMz LGBTQ+. Its free to become a member and young people can take part in a wide range of projects including cooking, gardening, digital projects and volunteering. As well as these, we deliver many activities and workshops designed to encourage creativity, life skills and health & well-being.
Dr. Mz is a vital community resource, offering a range of projects and services designed to support young people in their personal development, skills acquisition, and community engagement.
In January 2021, we achieved the Welsh Government Youth Work Quality Mark – Bronze Level. Our qualified and registered youth workers deliver high-quality and engaging sessions. We serve a diverse range of young people, many facing social disadvantage or living in deprived areas, with specific challenges such as poverty, mental health issues, being in care, low educational attainment, and learning difficulties. Most lack support and role models at home.
Our project is crucial for young people in a town grappling with poverty, limited affordable facilities, substance misuse, and rural isolation. Families we work with are currently impacted by the cost of living crisis.
