The exchange set out to compare the Celtic heritage of Wales and Brittany.

This project has supported by a Lefèvre Trust grant administrated British Council’s.

Saint David (known as Dewi Sant in the Welsh language) is the patron saint of Wales. He was a Celtic monk who lived in the 6th Century and was Archbishop of Wales

Why not celebrate the day by making some Welsh Cakes!

Welsh Cakes (35mins)

Makes approx 12

Ingredients:-

• 225g/8oz Self Raising Flour
• 1 tea spoon Mixed Spice
• 100g/4oz Butter
• 50g/2oz Currants or Sultanas
• 75g/3oz Sugar
• 1 large Egg, lightly beaten
• Milk, to mix

Instructions:-

1. Sieve the flour and spices into a large mixing bowl then rub the butter into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.

2. Stir in the currants and sugar then add the egg and mix well until it starts to come together. If it is s not sticking together, add a little milk to get stiff dough, a little softer than pastry.

3. Turn onto a floured work surface and roll out to just under 12mm/½-inch thick, then cut into 7.55cm/3-inch rounds using a biscuit cutter.

4. Heat a griddle or large frying pan until very hot, lightly grease with oil butter, wiping the excess off, then place some cakes on the griddle, spacing quite well apart and cook for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Serve warm or cold with or without butter.

The builders moved in on Wednesday 27^th Jan and have began to gut the bar area.

The SMART room will be the first stage to be completed ready for them to move in ASAP.

Carmarthen SMART Project is a wider curriculum schools programme that has been based in the Carmarthen Youth Project building for the past 5 years. This continues to be a successful partnership between Carmarthenshire County Youth Service and Dr. M’z.

We are looking forward to seeing the young people again and arranging a launch event!

We signed the lease for the old athletic club behind Wilkinsons at the end of 2009. The building now needs a vast amount of work before it is ready to be opened to the public some time in April 2010. Check back here for more details and progress of the building work.

On Wednesday 3rd December 2009 Carmarthen Youth Project’s young peoples Forum attended Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services awards evening. Carmarthen Youth Projects Young People’s Forum was awards with “Organisation of The Year 2009” award.

Dr.M’z Young Peoples Forum is a structured group which provides young people with the opportunity to express their ideas, needs and opinions. The purpose of the Forum is to provide members with the opportunity to have a voice, to gain ownership of their project, to have a role in decision making and facilitation of activities at DrMz and to benefit their local community by participating in local events.

Our Millennium Volunteers were also awarded with their 50 hours certificates!

The determination and passion this group has had over the last 16 months inspired staff at the project to nominate them for this award. Carmarthen Youth Project is a registered charity and without the support of our young people’s Forum and volunteers, staff would find it difficult if not impossible to have been able to achieve and provide some of the events/activities that we have done over the last 16 months.

Staff at Dr.Mz would like to thank all of our volunteers for their support and efforts! Well done and keep up the good work!

Dr. M’z is holding its first Christmas Lantern Parade on November 27^th on the day of the Christmas light switch on in the town. 

The aim of the event, which is a partnership with Trysordy, the Town Council and Dr. M’z, is to bring families and the community together to make lanterns to create a wonderful walking display through the town.

 We will be holding lantern making sessions at the empty unit in Unit 2 Greyfriars Shopping Centre on the two Saturdays leading up to the event which are November 14^th and 21^st at 2pm till 4pm

 Mr. John Nash, Shopping Centre Manager has been kind enough to allow us to use the unit which is easily accessible to all ages. 

The lanterns will be made of willow and paper and will be lit up for the parade.

 We are looking for as many groups, families or individuals as possible to participate and join in the fun.

 Tom Webb, Digilab Manager at Dr. M’z said, “This is a great opportunity for families to get together to take part in a community event. You don’t need any special skills or equipment to participate. Just turn up”.
